About Me

How I Got Here

I fell into UX by accident.

In 2022, I was asked to work for Latent Culture, and found myself working on all design aspects of TODEM.

I worked on that project while simultaneously teaching art at the University of Chicago.

After years of making art, designing for TODEM brought me to the realization that designing for function and user experiences is what I want to do, so now I'm here.

Not that art isn’t functional or useful, but reaching a state of usefulness in art is an indirect path.

I’m particularly drawn to the problem and puzzle solving aspects of experience design, and am especially interested in designs that shape human behavior for the better.

Boring Things

I received my Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art from the University of Chicago, during which I adopted a fascination with AI-generated human faces and created artwork derived from the American affinity for copies and socialization through athletic endeavors. I still make art for fun.

I occasionally write, including pieces on the Illinois State Fair Butter Cow and the Future of Illicit Generative AI.

My art has been featured in Hyperallergic and 60 Inches From Center.

When I was 19 I took a break from college and lived on a Zen Buddhist commune, which still stands as one of the better decisions I’ve made.

I worked as a line cook for about two years, and I learned how to use my taste buds.

I play golf and chess for fun, but they’re only fun when I play well.

About

Making art in the American tradition of copies and repetition, with a current emphasis on masculinity as socialized via athletic endeavors and wartime activities.

Writing on a breadth of topics that pique my interest, call it cultural criticism, or call it something else if you'd like. Recent pieces include these ones on the Illinois State Fair Butter Cow and the Future of Illicit Generative AI.

Designing boutique digital user experiences.

Previously Teaching Fellow in Visual Art at the University of Chicago.

Art recently featured in Hyperallergic and 60 Inches From Center.
